MUIR-SYS · THE LISP MACHINE SYSTEM
The Lisp Machine system for QUUX and for the CADR, continuing where MIT’s released system left off.
The updated system, for QUUX, is on the repository’s main branch; the CADR’s system continues on its cadr branch. Each has its own releases.
01 / WHAT IT IS
For both machines, continuing where MIT’s released system left off: MIT’s own sources, recovered from its backup tapes and brought up by LM-3.
In QUUX, run by muir-sim and muir-fpga: better in performance and capacity, and in modern computing, such as the display’s resolution, block storage and the network. It says which improvements it has, and the system reads them at boot.
It changes the system where a change pays for itself, rather than rewriting it. Backward compatibility is not an aim.
The release notes say what each release is and what it changed.
muir-sim, the simulator, and muir-fpga, on an FPGA, with ozd, the CADR’s associated machine, serving the CADR’s bands.
The source is under the AGPL, version 3 or later.
02 / THE TWO LINES
What the CADR’s releases removed, added and changed from MIT’s System 100.
CADR’s systemWhat QUUX’s releases removed, added and changed from MIT’s System 100, its microcode and what it reads of the machine at boot among them.
QUUX’s systemThe system’s sources are MIT’s, by way of LM-3; muir-sys’s changes, builds and documents are made with Claude Code, using Anthropic’s Claude Opus and Claude Fable.
